April Showers Bring May Flowers...
Our Florida winter is over, and Spring has Sprung. Our brothers and sisters "up north" are digging out of the cold, snow, ice, and other such unpleasantries, we are "looking forward" to a great Florida summer. Afternoon thundershowers. Humidity. Temperatures in the low nineties. "Perfect Model A Weather" I am sure.
During the summer of 1927, President Calvin Coolidge planned a three-week vacation in the Black Hills of South Dakota, relaxing and fishing. That three weeks turned into three months, obviously avoiding the seasonal weather of Washington DC. Thus the trend started to leave the hot weather and go somewhere that had more reasonable temperatures and activities. BUT he had to get back to civilization for the December unveiling of the NEW FORD!
So your President will be following ol' Calvin's lead and will be leaving at the end of May for Vermont, known for its mild summers. Return date? September, maybe. And the club will get through the summer in the hands of your Vice President, Kevin. He likes the hot weather and driving without air conditioning.
However, when we look back at March 2026 we see that there were some great events and great Model A activities. The Stetson Mansion Historical Tour was a lot of fun. We met Cristian Delaporte from Argentina and his right-hand-drive '29 Model A that he drove from his home in South America so that he could take a dip in Prudoe Bay, Alaska - the Arctic Ocean. (Watch the RESTORER magazine for Kim's article about Cristian.) Monthly dinner. Great Tuesdays with what seemed to be record attendance. And remember that the Settlement's Spring Frolic had the Crankin' A's frolicking all over at Saturday's car show.
But it doesn't end there. We have our Spring Tour coming up in a week. Third Anniversary Celebration for the Garage on the 25th. And we are also making plans and preparations for Model A Days in November, our Christmas Party, and a Christmas Story at the Athens Theater on December 3.
Special Thanks to everyone for their invaluable assistance for the Spring Car Show.
Unfortunately April and May is when we say "farewell" to some of our members who are going north for the summer. They will be missed.
